New Age of Aging seeks proposal reviewers

Participate in Member Program to Hone Your Skills

The Alliance for Children and Families is seeking volunteers to lend their expertise as grant proposal reviewers for the New Age of Aging’s mentor, mentee, and mini-grant applications.

Reviewers will be able to network with colleagues, learn more about the grant-making process, develop their own grant-writing skills, learn about what’s happening with the New Aging of Aging, and contribute knowledge and experience to help select high-quality Alliance member agencies to receive funding.

Process
Reviewers will receive the proposals and instructions electronically and will be asked to submit scores by the deadline via e-mail. Reviewers will be allotted two weeks to read and evaluate proposals. Following completion of reviews, a one- to two-hour telephone conference call among peer reviewers will compare scores and address questions or concerns.

Each year from 2008-2011, two or three proposal cycles will be implemented. Reviewers may volunteer for one, two or all three scheduled reviews. Alliance members applying for a grant should refrain from volunteering as a proposal reviewer for the particular grant for which they are applying.

All proposal narratives are prepared in 10-12 point Times New Roman or Arial font. Mentor proposals are five-page single-spaced narratives (no more than 10 per reviewer). Mentee proposals are three-page single-spaced narratives (no more than 15 per reviewer). Mini-grant proposals are one-page single-spaced narratives (no more than 25 per reviewer).

Qualifications
Reviewers should have knowledge of aging programs and services, should be aware of the contributions older adults offer to society and should have some past experience writing and reviewing grant proposals. Interested individuals are not required to have knowledge of the Alliance for Children and Families New Age of Aging Project. An orientation will provide you with an understanding of program components.

About the New Age of Aging
Thanks to a five-year $2.6 million grant from the Atlantic Philanthropies, the New Age of Aging will work to build solutions and become change agents that bridge the gap between the human service community and the dynamics associated with an aging population. Through planned activities, aging resources, and grant funds available from the New Age of Aging, the Alliance and its members will develop new ideas to address the challenges of an aging population. We will plan for the physical, social, and emotional needs of an emergent generation of older adults. To learn more about the opportunities offered by the New Age of Aging go here.

To volunteer as a reviewer, e-mail Jessica Bizub, project coordinator, at jbizub@alliance1.org or call 414-359-6531 or 800-221-3726 with any questions.
